Dr. Debora Drake grew up in Jacksonville, a small town in northeastern Alabama where, by the age of five, she knew that helping animals would be her life's work.

She completed her Bachelor of Health Science at Duke University School of Medicine in 1980 and earned her degree in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University (WAR EAGLE!!!) in 1987.

Dr. Drake has practiced small animal and exotic medicine in Tampa for 30 years. Dr. Drake has also been published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association for her discovery of the first known case of proliferative sparganosis in a dog found in North America. Dr. Drake began Southpaw in 1996.

She lives in North Tampa with her 4 dogs and 5 parrots. Her favorite quote from her late father is, "Don't get good at anything you don't like to do".
